UNDSS in Gaza is supporting the UN Agencies and International Non-Governmental organizations (INGOs) and International Organisations (IOs) so as to enable them to conduct their operations in the safest way possible.
The positions are locally administered by UNDP but financed by the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) from the USAID grant. The duration of the positions for one year. The contracts may be extended subject to the availability of funds, satisfactory performance and a continuing need for the posts.
Closely working with the UNDSS Gaza team, the driver provides driving services to Gaza office staff, consultants, experts and UN staff on mission from within UNDSS and other collaborating partners or sister UN Agencies.
The Driver demonstrates a client-oriented approach, high sense of responsibility, courtesy, tact and the ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent will undertake the following functions:
- Provide reliable and secure driving services using armoured vehicles for UNDSS Gaza Office to programmes and operations staff, experts and consultants, and UN officials and visitors.
- Ensure cost-saving through proper use and day-to-day maintenance of the assigned armoured vehicle.
- Ensure availability in the assigned vehicle of all the required documents, supplies and necessary spare parts.
- Take all immediate actions required by rules, regulations, and laws in case of involvement in accidents.
- Perform other duties within incumbent’s functional profile as assigned and deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the office and Organization.
1)Provide reliable and secure driving services using armoured vehicles for UNDSS Gaza Office to programmes and operations staff, experts and consultants, and UN officials and visitors:
- Transport authorized personnel.
- Assist in the organization of logistical preparation of missions, including large VIP missions.
- Assist in preparation of mission reports to grant security clearances.
- Ensure that all instructions regulating safe driving behaviour and rules of the road are in hand and strictly followed
2)Ensure cost-saving through proper use and day-to-day maintenance of the assigned armoured vehicle.
- Maintain accurate daily vehicle logs.
- Provide inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
- Make timely minor repairs and/or arrange for major repairs and maintenance services.
- Ensure timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc.
3)Ensure availability in the assigned vehicle of all the required documents, supplies, and necessary spare parts.
- Keep current in vehicle documents such as vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, etc.
- Ensure vehicle first aid kit is adequately equipped.
- Ensure that the vehicle has Personal Protection Equipment in a quantity sufficient for all passengers and the Driver, trauma bag and communications equipment during the mission.
4)Take all immediate actions required by rules, regulations, and laws in case of involvement in accidents.
The incumbent performs any other duties agreed to within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.

Required Skills and Experience
Min. Education requirements
- Secondary Education with a valid driver’s license.
Min. years of relevant work experience
- Minimum of 2 years (with high school diploma) of relevant work experience in client services with a safe driving record is required.
Required skills:
- Knowledge of driving regulations, rules and laws as well as skills in minor vehicle repair and maintenance is a requirement.
Desired skills in addition to the competencies covered in the Competencies section:
- Knowledge of driving of armoured vehicles will be considered an advantage.
- Experience in the basic use of computers and relevant office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and ability to use web-based management and electronic log, file and/or scheduling systems is an asset.
- Prior experience of working with international organisations/projects will be considered an advantage.
Languages:
- Working knowledge in English language is required.
- Fluency in Arabic language is required.
Professional Certificates:
- Valid Driver License is required
