MSF Spain is looking for a Midwife to provide obstetrical care to pregnant women and their babies, doing follow up before, during and after delivery, according to MSF obstetrical and reproductive health protocols, universal hygienic and newborn caring standards and under supervision of a specialist doctor, in order to ensure their health conditions and avoid post-delivery complications.
Accountabilities
MSF Spain is looking for a Midwife to provide obstetrical care to pregnant women and their babies, doing follow up before, during and after delivery, according to MSF obstetrical and reproductive health protocols, universal hygienic and newborn caring standards and under supervision of a specialist doctor, in order to ensure their health conditions and avoid post-delivery complications.
Accountabilities
- Ensuring the implementation and continuity of antenatal and postnatal care, family planning, obstetrical care (BEmONC and CEmONC), neonatal, management of victims of sexual violence, reproductive tract infections and Fistula care in accordance with MSF Reproductive Core Package of Activities and reinforce the implementation of standardised protocols.
- Where PMTCT is implemented, ensuring implementation of the PMTCT protocol in the ANC/delivery and PNC consultations (pre counselling, test and post counselling).
- In PHCC setting, provide direct clinical antenatal, postnatal, and family planning consultations. This includes routine monitoring, health promotion, counselling and the provisison of contraceptive methods in line with MSF protocols.
- Collaborating with the medical doctor and mental health team in the management of Sexual Violence cases
- Ensuring hygiene and sterilization criteria (including universal precautions) are met according to MSF specifications.
- Performing cleaning and minor maintenance for biomedical equipment used. Following the user manual and protocols and alert supervisor in case of malfunctioning.
- Guaranteeing a regular and ongoing supply of drugs and equipment required for SRH activities (including monitoring/consumption control/ordering of orders)Properly following up all newborn babies, informing mothers and relatives about importance of breast feeding, vaccination and possible complications resulting from harmful traditional practices.
- Ensuring patients’ right to privacy and confidentiality is respected
- According to MSF protocols in force, conduct normal deliveries independently, manage obstetric emergencies; identify cases needing referral and send them in time, clean up the newborn, executing and registering first neo-natal medical acts (cutting and cleaning the umbilical cord, vaccination, etc.), detecting possible anomalies/infections of the newborn and reporting them to the doctor, in order to ensure successful interventions,
- BEmONC = basic emergency obstetric and neonatal care = Administration of antibiotics, oxytocics, anticonvulsants, manual removal of the placenta, removal of retained products following abortion and newborn care including neonatal resuscitation.
- CEmONC = comprehensive obstetric and neonatal care = the full package of BEmONC Plus; surgery (caesarean section, hysterectomy, laparatomy), safe blood transfusion and care to sick and low birth weight newborns
MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities
- Performe triage of the patients doing initial clinical examination and categorization according to risk.
- Performe ANC autonomously considering the criteria pre defined by the project as low risk cases, including but not limited to personal and family medical history, obstetric history, nutritional assessment, gestational age calculation, fetal vitality, vital signs, blood and urine tests and health education accordingly stage of pregnancy.
- Performe PNC autonomously to mother and newborn on the first 28 days after delivery recognizing warning signs and need of referral.
- Extensive knowledge of counselling contraception
- Work with Health Promoting, Mental health and medical team in the Nutrition program under 6 months.
- Perform breastfeeding consultations doing technique assessment and counselling.
- Support / follow up PLW nutritional program.
- Knowledge of prevalent gynecological pathologies in terms of diagnosis and treatment, to work in collaboration with the specialist physician.
- Support SV program on identification of survivors, ensure comprehensive care (mental health and medical care), activating the corresponding circuit and support medical care if requested by the gynecologist.
- Appropriate behavior and collaboration with other MSF colleagues as well with Ministry of Health or other organizations staff (respect, communication, and flexibility).
- Active commitment in training activities
- Participation in weekly and monthly medical reports
- Proactively report operational challenges to the manager and propose actionable solutions to ensure the delivery of proper and adequate medical care.
- Knowledge and compliance of security measures defined by MSF for each facility.
Qualifications
Education Essential: midwifery qualification or specialization. Desired Bachelor in Midwifery.
Experience Desirable: working experience of at least two years in midwife activities related jobs
Languages Essential: mission language; local working language would be an asset.
